Day 3:    Seeing the Southernmost Spot !

Main Page > Bone Alone Tours > 2008 Lagniappe Thanksgiving Tour >

One of the things that resonated with Bone on the Tour is the common misperception that New Orleans is at the Mouth of the Mississippi. The Mouth or Delta of the Mississippi is 130 miles south of the Big Easy, so needing a car for the rest of the trip, Bone rented a Mustang and headed south Louisiana 23 to find the Mouth of the mighty Mississippi !!

As Bone headed south, the skies cleared, it warmed up into the low 80's and became a perfectly delightful day, so Bone rolled down the ragtop and enjoyed the ride down.

Venice,, Louisiana !!?!!

The road narrowed from a boulevard to a 4-lane, then finally to a 2-lane, finally Bone made it to end of the road, Venice Louisiana !!

Delta Blue Waters !

The no-light Town of a few buildings and fishing pier did have a nice Bar where Bone sucked down a few Coruna's until the sun began to set. Before he left he took a picture of the End of the Road

Gulf, Denied !

Unlike Mile 0 in Key West, there is a very unceremonious sign at end of the Road, and you are still 10 miles from the actual Gulf of Mexico !

Hurricane Gustav Wreckage

As Bone headed back he past a number of signs of wreckage from the recent Hurricane Gustav, like this capsized Houseboat.

Metaraire Meandering

As he got back in the the New Orleans area to began to rain again, between the rain and having to be up early the next day for kayaks the Bayou's Bone stayed in a very cheap and nondescript Hampton in on the Mississippi in Metaraire and retired early.
