The 2019 edition of the Quicklane Bowl celebrated the former Pizza Bowl Day with the traditional “Making of the Pie!”, where Mike and Bone make Sila-style pizza in Boneacello to lay a base for the day! Heading Downtown, the Boys decided to check out a bar they have seen many times, but had never checked out.

'Hanging' in Baltimore before the Game?

Mike and Bone had been in Baltimore, but never THE Baltimore!   Don't let the dark interior fool you. The Baltimore is one of the best secrets in downtown Detroit for great basic bar food, drinks and staff that is a lot of fun. While it appears to be pretty nondescript it was featured on the AMC show "Low Winter Sun"! It is absolutely a Mike and Bone type of Bar! After a few cocktails (fancy talk for beers!) The Boys strolled through the lovely mild day to the Stadium for the football festivities!

Bird Watching Marching EMU's!

The EMU Fight song played by The EMU Marching Band that reflects their cowardly abandonment of the Huron name to the boring Eagles. Their new fight song is "Go Green, let's win this game. We'll always fight for old EMU. Come on and let's Go Green!” Next was the Pittsburgh playas.

Cat-Napping during the Panthers !

The University of Pittsburgh Varsity Marching Band, or Pitt Band, is the college marching band at the University of Pittsburgh. The band numbers over 300 students consisting of instrumentalists, a majorette squad known as the Golden Girls, a color guard, and the drumline. Their fight song is an interesting story. Hail to Pitt" is the most traditional of various fight songs of the University of Pittsburgh. Lyrics were written by George M. Kirk and music by Lester Milton Taylor, both of whom were members of the Beta Theta chapter of Sigma Chi at Pitt. The first performance of this song was in a production of the Cap and Gown Club, a student musical theatre company, titled Here and There in the spring of 1910. Kirk himself sung the performance of his song during this production which took place in the Carnegie Music Hall, in what was the first school year that the university had relocated to the Oakland section of Pittsburgh (close to Mike and Bone’s Original Hot Dog Stand!) and the second academic year after the university changed its name from the Western University of Pennsylvania.[ The lyrics and music were printed by Volkwein's Music and the song was copyrighted. Kirk, who served as a Pitt cheerleader for three years, helped push for the song's use as the Pitt fight song. However, by the 1930s, the song's popularity led to issues with its use on radio broadcasts of games involving the school's successful football team. Because Pitt did not own the copyright to the song, permission for its use had to be obtained from the copyright owners prior to any broadcast. This led the university to commission and adopt a new song, the "Victory Song", to which the university owned the copyright and could freely grant permission for its use.  However, "Hail to Pitt" continued to be performed and survives as the university's primary musical number.

The running EMU's!!! errr Eagles!

The Game commenced and was not at all a disappointment. The game drew a lot of green-and-white clad fans, cheering for the Eagles, whose campus is about 30 miles from Ford Field. The attendance was 34,765, the largest crowd to watch a Quick Lane Bowl since it was created.

All the Green and White fans cheered when  Eastern surprisingly went out to an early lead, which went back and forth in the first half with the Eagles ending on top.

A Half Time Eagles Lead 20 - 17!

By end of the game Pittsburgh players took punches, and one was hit with spit, and the Panthers still kept their cool in critical moments to win a bowl game for the first time in five appearances under coach Pat Narduzzi.

Kenny Pickett threw a 25-yard touchdown pass to Taysir Mack with 47 seconds left and the Panthers held on to beat Eastern Michigan 34-30 in the Quick Lane Bowl on Thursday night. “Our kids held their composure,"

 Narduzzi said.

A Final Second Lead Change!

After taking its first lead of the game in the final minute, Pittsburgh (8-5) forced Eastern Michigan to turn it over on downs from its 40 to seal its first bowl victory since winning in Detroit six years ago with former coach Paul Chryst.

Broken Glass The EMU Quarterback

In the end Eagles (6-7) came up just short in a closely contested game just as they did in three previous bowls with coach Chris Creighton and the usually disciplined team unravelled at times.

Mike Glass, the EMU Quarterback surpassed Charlie Batch's single-season records of 3,390 yards of total offense and 23 touchdown passes set in 1997. However those achievements were marred by the punches Glass threw with 10 seconds left in the game, cold-cocking a Referee by mistake. “He's in tears in the locker room, begging me to talk to the team before I could say a word,” Creighton said. “He made a mistake and he is truly sorry for it. I'm ultimately responsible for it and I'm embarrassed, but I love him 100 percent."  Eagles cornerback Kevin McGill was ejected earlier for unsportsmanlike conduct. Creighton said officials told him McGill spit on an opponent. “There's absolutely no excuse for any of that,” Creighton said. “They're embarrassed by it. They apologized to the team. I'm embarrassed. I apologize to anybody's who's watching."

Glass was 28 of 50 for 311 yards with two touchdowns and an interception. The senior also ran for 83 yards and a score. He was not made available for comment after the game, but was contrite on Twitter. “I let God and my family down!" Glass posted on his account. Pickett completed 27 of 39 passes for 361 yards and three scores, including a school-record, 96-yard TD pass to Maurice French that tied the game in the second quarter. French finished with 12 catches for 165 yards. “Pittsburgh had some explosive plays that were the difference in the game." As the fervour died down from the Hockey fight, err Football Game, Mike and Bone headed out to experience some of  the awesome Deeetroit nightlife! First Stop, the every ubiquitous Old Sheileigh!

To a Filled Glass at the Old Sheileigh!

Mike and Bone went into an old familiar spot and instantly were at home! As the Boys wandered the three floors of Guinness goodness of the bar, the brown creature started to show its effects on the Boys. After an hour they decided to try out the Old Detroiter Bar for some Chicken Wings.

Unfortunately the Kitchen was closed, but there are always Coney's! So the Boys marched over to try American for a coupla of dogs.

A Classic Way to end a Good Day ! Lafayette Coney Island!!

Mike and Bone have never had an American, next door to Lafayette, but the line was stupid long and after 15 minutes the Boys abandoned American for 2 light onions, chilli fries, and Vernors!

The delicious trio sated the Boys retired to Boneacello with some football, beer, and hot dogs in them,,, truly a proper Mike and Bone Christmas celebration!
